Shelley, Craig. Proof of contact between Martha Brown and her Jacklin relatives in Whaddon. H. Jacklin said that Martha Brown was the source of the picture (Telephone call, October 2001, great great grandson of John Jacklin). My father told me that he believed Martha Brown was the source of the picture (May 2001, great grandson of John Jacklin). Martha Brown started doing genealogical research in the late 1930s. She sent pictures to Hilda, Hilda's daughter Bessie had copies of these pictures, with dates written on the back from the late 1930s, when I visited her in September 2001. In her life history sketch, Martha states "But after they were grown up [her children, the youngest is Earl, born 1918], I became interested in genealogy work and enrolled in a class which was taught by Archibald Bennett. This was very interesting and profitable for me. I was successful in getting names and dates of many of my ancestors from England for a Book of Rememberance." She also states that her brother, John Jacklin (1872) was the genealogical chairman for his Ward in the same sketch. A great granddaughter of John Jacklin living in Utah, Ellen (Jacklin) Tracy now deceased, did genealogy all her life too. I visited her son, J. Tracy in Oct 2001. In Ellen Tracy's records, there were pictures of Whaddon, The Wilderness, and the Walker family. There were also family group sheets for many of the descendents of John Jacklin still living in England that according to the "Source of Information" on the family group sheet these were filled out personally by these families living in England. In addition, Florence Ethel Walker is frequently mentioned as a source. She copied headstones at the Whaddon churchyard for Martha Brown and Ellen Tracy. In addition, a genealogical researcher in England is frequently mentioned as a source of parish and other genealogical records. Martha, John and Ellen probably paid to have genealogical research done by this person. He may have obtained the initial addresses for various family members living in Whaddon.
